PMI Hawaii Chapter Professional Development Day 2026

This workshop introduces PMI's M.O.R.E. mindset and explores how project professionals can adapt their approach to create greater value. Through self-assessments, small-group discussions, peer learning, and interactive activities, participants examine practical ways to apply the four M.O.R.E. behaviors in their day-to-day work.

Psychological safety is a key component of high functioning project teams and is a foundational part of building trust that unlocks better decision-making, innovation, and team performance. Join us to learn more about psychological safety – what it is, why it is so important, and how it can impact project success. We will share practical tips on creating a psychologically safe environment where project team members feel safe to ask questions, speak up, and take smart risks.

Retrospective of the 2026 PMP® Mentorship Program, designed in partnership with Manaʻolana International. This 9-month experience connects seasoned PMs with professionals through structured sessions, a Personal Development Plan (PDP), PDU opportunities, and community-building. Review the past year with the mentors and mentees – see their progress, listen to challenges and how we overcame them. This session offers insight into how mentorship can support PMP challenges, career advancement strategies, or leadership succession and strengthen Hawaiʻi’s project management community.

Building a strong project team starts long before kickoff—it begins with how you identify and add new members to the team. This session offers practical tips to enhance your hiring practices. Participants will discuss and practice such areas as defining essential skills in potential team members, interviewing effectively, reducing bias in the selection process, and making hiring decisions.

The key to effective communication is a clearly defined desired outcome and understanding your audience and their decision making needs. This session will explain how to address decision makers needs for data (dad), story (mom) and relationship (grandma) and how to combine these details effectively in different situations.

Improve your presenting skills by practicing simple presentation techniques to be a better small group speaker, both in person and online. Learn pointer to streamline your powerpoint so it helps you give a better presentation. Gain confidence, learn techniques to reduce nervousness, and practice non-verbal techniques to improve your delivery.

Organizations don't usually have a planning problem. They have an execution problem. Project plans are built with logic and structure, but execution happens amid competing priorities, shifting conditions, limited resources, unclear ownership, delayed decisions, and breakdowns in coordination.
Military professionals have trained for, lived through, and delivered in those conditions. They know how to translate intent into action, align people around a common goal, make decisions with incomplete information, adapt without losing momentum, maintain composure under pressure, and deliver results when the plan collides with reality.
In this interactive AhaSlides session, participants will use phones or tablets for live polls, rankings, and crowd-sourced insights while exploring how military experience creates a powerful advantage in project execution.
